August ran by and as usual its started off with a big party here in Engelberg. The Swiss national day is celebrated on 1st of August and in Engelberg that means that the whole town is in party mode with a village feast during the whole day (and night). All sports and/or hobby clubs (Vereine) have a food tent or some other type of stand along the Dorfstrasse in Engelberg, there is music in the streets and people sit and chat in the tents until early hours. Definitely worth a visit if you have no proper plans for how to celebrate Switzerlands Birthday next year.
Now entering the first official autumn month which means hunting season is kicking off. We have already started to hears some bangs echoing in the mountains which means we would recommend being somewhat more cautious hiking around in the wilderness during early and late hours of the day. But it also means that we will get to enjoy the amazing Game season cuisine and we highly recommend hike up to either Ritz Gerschnialp or for a longer hike to Stäfeli by Fürenalp for a traditional Viltteller.
September also means its the last month of Early Bird on the shelves for this year. We are now transitioning into the winter months which means Early Bird gets replaced by its wintery cousin Blue Bird. On the annual Herbstmarkt with Alpabzug on the 28th of September we will official launch this years Blue Bird and will be selling the last roast of Early Bird for this time. A market in Engelberg you don't want to miss. usually lovely autumn weather, lots of local and regional handicrafts and delicacies and decorated cows marching through town with in an orchestra of chanting bells. in other words, you don't want to miss it and if you want to grab a couple of bags of Early Bird... now is also the time. Only available online or at the Roastery until the 28th Sept.
Another more unfortunate lasts is that it is the last month that we have Gusti roasting and working his magic in the Roastery. Gusti started here in spring 2020 and quickly got into the world of coffee. He soon got into roasting and about a year later he was our full time roaster and has been since. He will be leaving us now end of September to start a big adventure sailing around the world for a couple of years. We will for sure miss him but also can't wait to follow his new adventure.
Autumn hikes, cow jams in the streets and delicious game cuisine is pretty much what september is about in Engelberg and we wouldn't want it any other way. Its a beautiful time up here and the autumn golden leaves just add that extra magic to the hikes. If you are planning a trip up to Engelberg and are looking for some alternative event to start or end your day with then don't hesitate to contact us for a interesting coffee tasting session, workshop or why not a Barista course? Or if cheese is another big interest of yours then maybe check out how to make cheese at our friendly partners at the Chäs im Kloster
Enjoy this first official Autumn month and see you at the Roastery!!
